From a small jewelry shop, Trollbeads began to expand its horizons by creating jewelries made from conventional and non-conventional materials that have different range in values.  Gold, silver and gemstones were already in use and crystals, amber and glass soon followed.  Thanks to Svend Nielsen, who is considered as the grandfather and patriarch of the Trollbeads hierarchy, Trollbeads already had its roots and a significant pace in the jewelry business since Svend was a seasoned goldsmith that goes way back to his youth.

The Trollbeads became more well-known with the involvement of Svend’s daughter, Lise Nielsen-Aagaard.  Originally a licensed physiotherapist, Lise got involved in the family business and acted both as manager and public relations representative who travelled to other countries not only to make business deals, but also explore and learn new and modern crafting techniques.  Among the new materials she introduced was glass.  The new glass trollbeads was added to the trollbeads collection in early 2000 and long time patrons and newbies immediately recognized the new addition.

People who wear trollbeads necklaces and pearls are also able to easily remove and re-attach the locks on their chain’s ends so they can easily add or remove beads whenever they want.  This is thanks to the double-lock feature that was brought about by Svend and Lise.  Manufacturing of trollbeads needs to be efficient and economical, which is why Jens Nielsen, another Nielsen member, takes charge in making sure that they use the modern tools and techniques to manufacture each piece of trollbead.  Lise’s children, Isabel and Nicolas, have also started to become involved with the family business by designing and marketing their own designs.
