Denmark is the country of origin of a new brand and trend in jewelry that revolutionized the way people define their style and identity.  In the United States, the social and political upheaval are being replaced with the beat of the disco music.  This era brought the people bell-bottom jeans, tight fitting shirts, and shaggy and bushy hair-dos such as the mullet and the afro.

Emerging from the funky beat of disco music from the likes of ABBA, comes forth a jewelry business in Copenhagen called Trollbeads.  Well known fad jewelries such as macramé chokers and mood rings were all the rage.  While working in his workshop, a serendipitous moment was discovered by a young Danish Silversmith named Soren Nielsen.  As a silversmith, while working on a polished pearl that has been fitted with silver, he drilled a hole through the pearl itself.  That drilling through the pearl have triggered a chain reaction of style and trend in jewelry that is still popular today.  This was deemed as the very first trollbead and Soren gave it the name “The Mask.”

Initially known as Trollpearls (for obvious reasons), these retired trollbeads were added with five more and they became the first ever bunch of Trollbeads.  As brilliant as the idea and the products were, they were not widely marketed and were just displayed on the shelves for people to notice.  Soonafter, customers began to notice the bunch and the popularity and demand for the new beads flourished.  Business began to flourish and a family-run enterprise which was later became known as Trollbeads, grew into a multinational customized jewelry business.
